Skill Will Way

🤔 Have you ever wondered why your team aren’t quite performing at their best?

🛠️ Does your team have the “skills”, but not the “will”.

😃 Or do they have the “will”, but don’t have the “skills”.

🛑 Or perhaps your team have both of these, but the “way” is holding them back.

Skill Will Way - developing high performance teams

🎯 The "Will, Skill, and Way" model offers a powerful and practical framework for understanding where your team are and how to unlock their full potential

1️⃣ Will (Motivation): An enthusiastic employee who lacks experience (high will, low skill) often needs guidance and training to build their confidence and competence.

🚀 TIP: Regular check-ins and frequent positive feedback can really help them to thrive.

2️⃣ Skill (Competence): A highly capable, but disengaged employee (high skill, low will) needs to be re-energised.

🚀TIP: Use coaching conversations to discover what is blocking their motivation (e.g. boredom, lack of a challenge, or external factors). Re-engage them by reconnecting them to purpose or offering them new opportunities.

3️⃣ Way (Opportunity): Some low performance issues can be rooted in the “system”, not the person. This third dimension emphasises external factors that can impact motivation and performance.

🚀TIP: Look for blockers like inefficient processes, lack of resources, or poor team dynamics. Sometimes, the most motivating thing you can do as a leader is simply clear the path.

❓ Which of these three areas do you find most challenging to address in your team?
