🤔 Why is equality of access to higher education important?

😬 Students from disadvantaged backgrounds are 50% less likely to go onto higher education - being eligible for free school meals is a lead indicator. 

😧 They are less likely to go to prestigious universities, more likely to drop out of higher education & earn less than peers with similar qualifications.

👏 Last night I was at an event organised by the University of Hertfordshire for mentors at MCR Pathways that work with young people, who often come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

🧠 We learnt about the different further & higher education pathways, the UCAS application process, student finance options and range of experiences students have. 

💯 Importantly this now allows us to have more engaging and empowering conversations and ensure our mentees are fully aware of the higher education opportunities available to them.
